Capture A Landscape Photograph At Disney

In addition to the rides, parades, and infinite ways to part with your hard-earned money, Disney’s Magic Kingdom provides a photographer numerous opportunities to capture a landscape photograph at Disney. This was an image I shot on the walk into the Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure ride as the sun was setting behind Prince Eric’s castle.

The Little Mermaid ride

Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure opened at the Disney Magic Kingdom on December 6, 2012. It replaced Mickey’s Toon Town Fair. As you would expect it is a gentle ride, great for young kids with lots of music and animated characters. Riders sit in a clamshell as they travel through a series of scenes based on the Little Mermaid story. The entrance walkway is really well done, as you can see from the image above, the attention to detail is amazing. The walkway represents a seashore walk beneath Prince Eric’s castle at low tide.

Capture a fantasy landscape photograph at Disney

I did find myself wondering whether images of faked fantasy locations have a place on what is essentially a history/travel photography blog. Then I thought about the fact that many people who view this blog will enjoy images of real places that they may never visit, I decided that even though the Disney sets weren’t real they still have the power to transport people in time and space. The fact that you can capture a fantasy landscape like this one says something about the attention to detail of the designers and the power of the imagination.

Photographic Details

This image is a composite of five 0.7 interval exposures processed in Photomatix and finished off in Adobe Lightroom. I took the pictures on Sony A7r on a late summer evening. Somehow I even managed to get a picture with no people in it, which anyone who has visited the Disney Magic Kingdom in August will tell you is an amazing stroke of luck!
